Nora Sarmoria has more than 25 years of experience as a performer and producer, with 11 albums released as a soloist, participation in numerous shared productions, and the direction of the Orquesta Sudamericana since 2007.
Performer and teacher
She has played on numerous stages around the world, performing solo, in groups, or giving clinics and workshops on South American rhythms at jazz festivals, theaters and various venues. In Asia: Japan (tours to Tokyo in 2000 and 2013, âThe Piano Eraâ). In the Americas: Cuba (Havana International Jazz Festival), Brazil (University of SĂŁo Paulo), Peru and Uruguay (âJazz a la Calleâ International Festival, 2012 and 2013, Mercedes). In Europe: Denmark (Aarhus International Festival), Germany (Stuttgart, Cologne), Norway (Trondheim International Festival), Belgium (Brussels), Latvia (Riga Jazz Festival), Estonia (PĂ€rnu Jazz Festival), France (cello, clarinet and bandoneon quartet in Lyon and Paris, 2005â2012), and Holland (Zango Festival, Haarlem). In 2016 she gave a South American rhythms workshop in SĂŁo Paulo for 100 educators from all over Brazil, organized by Proyecto Guri. She has also performed in numerous theaters in the city of Buenos Aires and across Argentina.
She has accompanied and shared projects with musicians such as Teresa Parodi, Quique Sinesi, Liliana Herrero, Mono Fontana, Hugo Fattoruso, Lito Vitale, Arnaldo Antunes, Kepa Junkera, Negro Aguirre, Beto Satragni, Leo Masliah, Mariana Ingold, Urbano Moraes, Osvaldo Fattoruso, Juan FalĂș, Franco Luciani, Guillo Espel, among others.
She carries out an intensive activity spreading her music in a piano-voice-accordion format, as a solo act, duo or trio, in addition to giving open classes (workshops) on South American rhythms and their instrumentation. These concerts and classes are given both within and outside the country, at universities, theaters and conservatories.
Orchestra conductor
She leads the Orquesta Sudamericana, an ensemble she founded in 2007 and for which she is arranger and conductor (made up of 22 to 25 musicians). Since 2013 she has also directed the Orquesta Popular del Conti (35 musicians, at the Centro Cultural de la Memoria Haroldo Conti), with her own arrangements and compositions, and the Ensamble de Niñ@s del Conti, made up of children aged 6 to 14.
